Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised Azerbaijan for his successful accommodation of the Global Climate Conference Cop29, stressing the essential role of a green energy transition in the strengthening of energy security.
In a video address at the 12th World Forum in Baku, he recognized the president of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev for his leadership and expressed his gratitude in Azerbaijan for organizing an impressive event, Caliber.az reports via Local media.
Johnson recalled his mandate as Prime Minister at the Presidency of the United Kingdom of COP26 in 2021, when the Glasgow climate pact was signed, engaging 90% of nations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He also highlighted the importance of other key COP26 agreements, including the World Methane Pact.
Stressing substantial progress in reducing CO2 emissions from COP26, Johnson noted that the main oil and gas players, such as Azerbai Socar, were essential in these discussions. He stressed that, regardless of political opinions or national borders, there are many opportunities to reduce emissions while stimulating job creation and investment.
The former Prime Minister stressed that the transition of green energy protects not only the environment, but also improves energy security by protecting consumers against volatile energy prices.
