Allies, Russia, Ukraine should not initiate peace talks to end war: PM Narendra Modi
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Russian-Ukraine War would not end until the two nations are joining the negotiations for peace talks. In a podcast with Lex Fridman released on Sunday, Modi said that India was not neutral but firmly engaged in peace.
Speaking of his good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Modi said that he could urge the two leaders to end the war.
“I have a close relationship with Russia and Ukraine. I can sit with President Putin and say that this is not the time of war. And I can also tell President Zelensky, in a friendly way, that brother, regardless of the number of people with you in the world, there will never be a resolution on the battlefield,” said Modi.
He answered a question to help make peace between the two nations at war – Russia and Ukraine.
“The resolution will only arise when Ukraine and Russia come to the negotiating table. Ukraine could have countless discussions with their allies, but it will not bear any fruit. Discussions must include both parties,” he said.
The Prime Minister observed that at the start, it was difficult to find peace, but now, the current situation presents an opportunity for significant and productive talks between Ukraine and Russia.
“There has been a lot of suffering. Even the world South has suffered. The world has been struggling with a crisis of food, fuel and fertilizer. So the world community should unite in pursuit of peace. As for me, I have always argued that I stand with peace.
The Prime Minister said that India, the land of Lord Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, defends peace on conflicts.
“Culturally and historically, our history is so strong that each time we talk about peace, the world listens to us, because India is the land of Gautam Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, and the Indians are not wired to marry conflicts and conflicts,” he said.
“We adopt harmony … We are not looking for war against nature or to promote conflicts among nations. We defend peace and wherever we can act as paciges manufacturers, we have readily adopted this responsibility,” he said.

During his talks at the top with Putin on July 9 of last year in Moscow, Modi told the Russian leader that a solution to the Ukrainian conflict was not possible on the battlefield and that peace efforts do not succeed in the midst of bombs and balls. A few weeks later, he went to Ukraine, where he told Zelenskyy that Ukraine and Russia should sit together without wasting time to end the current war and that India was ready to play an “active role” to restore peace in the region.
