Aamir Jamal punished for his presumed support for Imran Khan; Several Pakistani players have a fine for having broken the team protocols – Report

Aamir Jamal, a versatile Pakistani, was allegedly sentenced to a fine of 1.4 million PKR (RS 4.3 Lakh) for violating the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) conduct after a controversial act during a home test against England in October 2024.

The action was considered a political message to support the former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently serving a prison sentence. Imran Khan is considered one of the best cricket players in Pakistan, having helped the country to win its first and the only title of the Cricket World Cup in 1992. Many modern players consider it a hero.

According to Samaa TV, Jamal's fine was the most severe of several fines recently imposed by the PCB. The number “804” would be the Imran Khan prison badge number. In Pakistan, active actors often declare their political affiliations publicly.

The PCB considered Jamal's actions as a violation of its laws, reaffirming its position according to which players must avoid political declarations on the ground. His controversial move would also have cost him a place for Pakistan teams for the CPI 2025 champions trophy. Pakistan was finally eliminated from the competition after losing two games in two in groups. Jamal was not the only player against a disciplinary punishment.

Other players were also sentenced to a fine by the PCB for violation of the conduct of the code.

Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha and Abdullah Shafiques were each sentenced to a fine of 5.00,000 PKR (RS 1.5 Lakh) to have returned late during the Pakistani tour in Australia last year. Sofiyan Muqeem, Abbas Afridi and Usman Khan were penalized 200 USD (Rs 17,000 approximately) not to comply with the team's discipline during the Pakistani tour in South Africa.

The Pakistani team is currently on a white ball tour in New Zealand and lost the first T20i in the five embarrassing series of games.
