Chinese chief Xi Jinping rejected the European Union invitation to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations – the Financial Times learned. As in previous years, China will be represented by Prime Mini Li Qiang. The European Union, however, hoped that this time, due to the uniqueness of the event and the geopolitical situation, the most important person of you came to Brussels. – Visit XI in Brussels would give conversations a completely different weight, certainly more. The Chinese, however, do not yet want to declare too much, because the international situation is not entirely predictable – explains Dr. Marcin Zabodniak, Chinese analyst of the Polish Institute of International Affairs (Letters). However, it reassures that it is not enough to talk about the crisis in relations.

The geopolitical situation is conducive to China. What will the European Union do?

– There is no diplomatic or political practice here, which would require a special interpretation or reading as a signal of something that changes as something important. In the summits of the EU organized in Brussels, the Chinese delegation was chaired by the Prime Minister of the RPC. This shows, however, that the Chinese may not want to get too involved in a way that would require large -scale political declarations – explains the analyst. Especially since the meeting on the line of Brussels – Beijing arrives and will come. The very likely presence of the Chinese Prime Minister during the summit is the best proof. – The Chinese want to underline their desire to cooperate with the Union, but they do not want to get too involved to make specific proposals – Note Dr Marcin Occaszyniak.

A complete investment agreement (CAI) between the European Union and China can be given for a good example of light withdrawal. Negotiations on market access and equal competition were completed in 2020. In 2021, however, ratification works were suspended. – Due to the various problems, CAI affected the ratification process and never entered into force. Last year, the Chinese said it could be worth returning. Currently, these suggestions are not in their proposals or their rhetoric – the writing analyst is a brief attention. – There is no specific economic offer in their statements, but between the lines, they always try to please the EU- he adds. He stressed that all parties involved in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict should participate in peaceful conversations, marking the key role in Europe.

The Chinese do not have to engage all the more because time plays in their favor. – For them, the current international situation is successfully developed. In this understanding that he does not threaten their interests, on the contrary – explains the analyst of the Scriptures. -Union loses its field a little, because its most important ally, that is to say the United States, makes controversial decisions, in particular in terms of security and relations with Russia, which are particularly important for Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. Anyway, also for the European Union itself. Many things also happen in business and economic issues – explains Dr. Marcin Occaszyniak. Let us remember that the rights of 25% have already entered into force for the importation of steel and aluminum in the United States. Another must take place from April 2 and the European Union has announced its own reprisals.

– The Chinese know that it is not a good development of the EU situation and they simply do not necessarily think that they still have to add their own commitment. That they must offer something to Europe, propose concessions that the EU should examine favorably the relationship with the PRC. They believe that what is happening in itself is a part of the EU's attention to China – explains Dr. Marcin Zabodniak.

They know that it is not a violent process which will suddenly lead to a return to the policy of the Union, so they will not go out too much either

You can see that the European Union is aware of the difficult location in which it found itself. It was decided that there would be an additional EU meeting on trade relations with the United States and China. On April 7, the ministers responsible for trade will meet in Luxembourg. There will be a representative of the Ministry of Development and Technology of Poland. Initially, this meeting was not in the Polish presidency plan. It was decided to add it as part of the trade in the United States union war. – Observation of China is correct to a certain extent, but not for some. The problems in the EU -Chinese relations have not disappeared, and their conscience certainly has the European Commission, and I think that some of the Member States too, although now – because of the dynamics of the United States relations – we could already discuss, which, less, said more – Dr. Marcin Zabodniak.
