Imran Khan, spouse personaters in IHC to request the suspension of the conviction in the 190m case

Islamabad: the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, and his wife Bushra Bibi moved the High Court of Islamabad on Wednesday, requesting the suspension of conviction in 190 million cases.

The petitions, deposited through Barrister Salman Safdar, argued that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had abused his authority and that the conviction was based on incomplete surveys.

The petitions said that the fact of not obtaining a declaration from the National Crime Agency (NCA) was an important omission and that NCA officials have not even been investigated.

Furthermore, petitions said that the accusation had not presented complete evidence and that the conviction had been precipitated. The petitions have requested that the conviction be suspended and that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have granted themselves to surety until the final decision on their appeal.

The petitions assured court that the accused would be present at each hearing of the appeal after the suspension of their conviction.

Earlier on January 17, 2025, former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi were found guilty in the 190m Al-Qadir Trust case, the founder of the PTI was sentenced to 14 years in prison and a sentence of seven years in prison to his wife.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana announced the three -time verdict in a makeshift courtroom in Adiala prison. The court also inflicted fines on Imran and Bushra, amounting to Rs1 million and 500,000 rupees, respectively. Not paying fines would cause an additional six -month prison for Imran and three months for Bushra, the court said.

According to the verdict, the property of the Al-Qadir University Project Trust are confiscated from the federal government within the meaning of article 10 (a) of the National Order of Responsibility, 1999.
