Govt will not oppose the release of Imran Khan if judicial orders: Rana Sanaullah

The adviser of the Prime Minister of Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, said on Thursday that the government would not oppose if the courts decided to release the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), Imran Khan.

The declaration comes as PTI is preparing for a protest campaign at the national level after Eidul Fitr, aimed at contesting what she calls a “stolen mandate” and putting pressure on the rule of law, constitutional supremacy and the liberation of political prisoners.

Adding to political pressure, the head of Jamiat Ulema-E-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, also announced that his party planned to protest against federal government policies after Eid, aligning with the PTI agenda.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, Sanaullah stressed that Khan remains in prison due to convictions in several cases.

The former Prime Minister has been behind bars since August 2023, faced with several accusations ranging from corruption to terrorism following his sneezed by a motion without confidence in April 2022.

Commenting on the recent session on the camera of the national parliamentary committee, Sanaullah said that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, was invited to improve police and counter-terrorism capacities (CTD) in response to growing terrorist activities.

The high -level meeting, convened by the president of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressed the deterioration of the security situation, in particular in KP and Balutchistan.

While the parliamentary management of the PTI, including the opposition chief Omar Ayub, jumped the session, the chief minister of the KP participated as a representative of the province.
