Prime Minister Stuart Young yesterday sought to put the question of his alleged intimidation of another schoolboy at St Mary's College 33 years ago to rest by publishing a declaration on intimidation, saying that he was politicized.

In the declaration he published on Facebook and not by the Prime Minister's office, Young chose not to give a precise response – he never referred to Imran Khan, alleged victim of his reported intimidation; He never denied or confirmed the allegation that he had intimidated Khan; And he never referred to the attack on Baton against himself, except to say that an “unhappy incident occurred” which was “traumatic for all those involved”.

Without named anyone, he said, “This incident was traumatic for all those involved”.

Young added: “People are shaped by their experiences and I have no intention of minimizing the feelings of anyone, even mine, about this, about 33 years later.”

He continued by saying that the public's interest is not served by politicizing a problem as sensitive as intimidation, which deserves a thoughtful discussion and significant solutions.

“Let us focus on writing the next chapter in which we work to make sure that our schools are safe spaces where all children can feel protected and get the necessary support. This is my commitment to Trinidad and Tobago, “he added.

Young's Declaration on intimidation came in response to an allegation that was made on Facebook on Monday, following his appointment as Prime Minister, and which was corroborated by a column written yesterday by journalist Lasana Liburd on Wired 868.

Liburd detailed an intimidation culture at the CIC and allegedly alleged that Young was an author.
