X continues the government of Modi on the deletion of content in the fight against censorship of New India | X
The Ministry of IT India illegally widened the powers of censorship to allow the easier withdrawal of online content and has enabled countless government officials to execute these orders, alleged Elon Musks X in a new trial against New Delhi.
The trial and allegations mark an escalation in a continuous legal dispute between X and the government of the Prime Minister of India, Narera Modi, on the way in which New Delhi orders the content to be eliminated. It also happens when Musk is getting closer to the launch of its other key companies, Starlink and Tesla, India.
In the new judicial file, dated March 5, X argues that the India IT ministry asks other services to use a government website launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs last year to issue content blocking orders and demand that social media companies are joining the website. This mechanism, known as X, does not contain rigorous Indian legal guarantees on the abolition of content which required that these orders be issued in cases such as prejudice to sovereignty or public order, and have obtained strict monitoring of senior officials.
The IT India Ministry has redirected a request for comments to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which did not respond.
The government's website creates an unacceptable parallel mechanism which causes censorship without restriction of information in India, said X, adding that it seeks to cancel the directive.
The documents of Tribunal XS are not public and were reported for the first time by the media on Thursday. The case was briefly heard earlier this week by a judge of the high court of the southern Karnataka, but no final decision was made. It will now be heard on March 27.
In 2021, X, formerly called Twitter, was locked in a confrontation with the Indian government for non-compliance with legal orders to block certain tweets linked to a farmer protesting against government policies. X later respected the public's criticisms of civil servants, but its judicial dispute to the decision continues before the Indian courts.
