Friday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that they had no update to share concerning a probable bilateral meeting between the chief advisor of Bangladesh, Professor Muhammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the sidelines of the Bimstec summit in Bangkok, Thailand, next month.

During the meeting you asked for a bilateral meeting, I have no update to share at this stage, said the MEA spokesman, Randir Jaiswal.

He made these remarks during a weekly briefing in New Delhi when a journalist wanted to know if there was a probability that Prime Minister Modi meets Professor Yunus on the sidelines of the Bimstec summit.

Answering a separate question, the MEA spokesman said that the Bangladesh-Inde's relationship was a large canvas and that they had been engaged with Bangladesh on several questions-development cooperation, economic issues and on connectivity.

Earlier, Bangladesh approached India by the diplomatic channel to organize a meeting between Yunus and Modi on the sidelines of the next Bimstec summit.

Yunus should attend the summit, which will be held on April 4 in Bangkok, raising the hope of a first person in person with Modi on the sidelines.

Thailand will welcome the 6th summit of the Bengal Bay Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation and Bangladesh will assume responsibility as the next president of Bimstec there, officials said. Thailand has resumed the chairmanship of Sri Lanka bimstec since March 30, 2022.

Bimstec consists of seven member countries, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Bimstec secretary general, Indra Man Pandey, recently said that the summit would have important results. He will define a management for the future of Bimstec.

Yunus said Dhaka had always insisted that Bangladesh's relationship with India would be the best relationship of all time. Because the fate of Bangladesh and India was linked and they could not be isolated from each other.

So, we always encourage everything to occur in the best possible way, Yunus told the BBC in a final interview, adding that the clouds due to false news were not part of the relationship of which the two countries appreciated.

The chief advisor thinks that Bangladesh and India have an excellent relationship. We will continue to do so, he said, describing India as a good trading partner in Bangladesh.

Yunus should leave Dhaka on March 26 for China and the two countries are looking forward to a bilateral meeting on March 28 in Beijing between the two Yunus leaders and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
