The visit of the Modi PM comes a month after India and Srilanka signed an agreement to set up solar power plants in the island nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sri Lanka on April 5, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said on Friday.

Dissanayake delivered a declaration to the Parliament when he announced the date of Modis' visit, according to the ADADERANA.LK news portal.

As announced, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vijitha Herath last week, Modi will arrive in Sri Lanka to finalize the agreements concluded during the visit of the Delhi President in Delhi last year.

The president also declared in the Parliament that the construction work of the Sampur power station in the Oriental Port district of Trincomalee should start at the same time as the visit of the Indian PMS.

Dissanayake said that Modi visits Sri Lanka due to the country's stability.

Last month, Sri Lanka and India concluded an agreement for the establishment of solar power plants in the island country, announced the Minister of Health Nalinda Jayathissa.

A consensus was reached between the government of Sri Lanka and the government of India to establish a capacity of solar power plants of 50 megawatts (step 1) and 70 megawatts (Stade 2) in Sampur in Trincomalee on the basis of construction, property and exploitation by Ceylon Electricity Board and National Thermal Power Corporation as a joint venture between two governments ” declared Jayathissa.

Earlier, the NTPC of India was to build a coal -fired power plant on the same site. The new joint venture sees it being converted into a solar power plant.
