Johnson said that individuals could only leave their homes for a short list of reasons, which included purchases of basic necessities “as rarely as possible,” doing the exercise once a day, looking for medical help, providing care to a vulnerable person or traveling to work so “absolutely necessary”.
He said, “That's all – these are the only reasons why you should leave your home.”

“If you do not respect the rules, the police will have the powers of applying them, including by fines and dispersion rallies.”
To guarantee compliance, Mr. Johnson ordered the immediate closure of all non -essential stores, including those who sell electronics and clothing.
He also announced that all public rallies of more than two people, other than those who live together, would be prohibited.
The other places affected by locking included libraries, playgrounds, outdoor gymnasiums and places of worship.

Johnson assured the public that the measures would be “in constant examination” and could be reconsidered for relaxation in three weeks if the evidence allowed.
