President Trump announced that Boeing would built the next generation of US Air Force fighter planes.

“They will have unprecedented power,” said Trump on Friday, adding that “American enemies will never see [them] future.”

Trump is the 47th American president and the jet is called the F-47.

“The generals have chosen a title, and that's a beautiful number,” Trump told journalists from the Oval Office. “Nothing in the world has yet approached it.”

Known as the next generation air dominance, or NGAD, the F-47 will join an inheritance of high performance jets, although it is little about its specifications, its appearance or its exact capacities. Trump has teased that the sixth generation fighter plane would be “practically insensitive” on the radar.

Although the details on the cost of the contract are not clear, the first estimates suggest that the development costs will exceed $ 20 billion, according to the Associated Press, while the final price is in the hundreds of billions, the war zone reported.

“We have given a lot of order. We cannot tell you the price,” said Trump.

The announcement is a big victory for Boeing, who had trouble recovering from a series of public relations and operational backhands. The company's reputation took a hit after 737 maximum accidents in 2018 and 2019, an eruption of door caps in 2024 and long-standing problems with its oil program KC-46.

The F-47 will be built in a Boeing manufacturing space in St. Louis, according to the public radio of St. Louis.

Boeing’s stock increased by around 5% on Friday, shortly after Trump's announcement.

His biggest competitor, Lockheed Martin, saw his shares drop by almost 7%.

Lockheed Martin produces the Jet F-35, which still forms the backbone of Air Force air combat capacities. But the F-35 were criticized in particular by Trump Ally Elon Musk, who described the F-35 “expensive and complex jack of all trades, master of none”.

Musk rather called on the US Defense Ministry to invest more in drone technology instead of stealth aircraft.

Defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, said the new war planes would send a strong message on America’s commitment to remain a world leader in military aviation.

The new fighter plane, he said, “sends a very clear and direct message to our allies that we are not going anywhere.”
