TRT Global – The Muslim organization is launching the campaign against changes in the WAQF law across India

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board, a leading Muslim organization in India, announced a national campaign against a proposed law that would extend government control over the properties of the WAQF.
The WAQF refers to land or goods endowed by a Muslim for religious, educational or charitable purposes.
Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, the spokesperson for the board of directors, said that his action committee of 31 members had decided to use all constitutional, legal and democratic means to resist what he describes as a “controversial, discriminatory and damaging” bill.
The board of directors presented a protest plan on a national level, including demonstrations in all the capitals of the State, according to a statement published late Sunday.
As part of the first phase of agitation, large sit-down sit-down sites were planned before the Bihars Patna state assemblies on March 26 and Vijayawada on March 29, Ilyas said.

India has the third world Muslim population. However, the community was at the end of Hindu majority policies.
Undemocratic
The campaign will include sit-ins, human chains and social media initiatives, in particular Hashtag campaigns on X, added the press release.
“In addition, public lectures, seminars, symposiums and dharnas (sit-ins) will be organized at the district level, and memorandums will be subject to the president of India through district magistrates,” he said.
The bill, initially met with the resistance of the opposition parties, was referred to a joint committee of the legislators, which has now presented its report. The legislation should be reintroduced during the current parliamentary session.
While the Muslim body affirms that the bill has been completely rejected by the community as “undemocratic”, the Bharatiya Janata power party, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, argues that the legislation aims to ensure responsibility and transparency.
On March 17, the board of directors organized a demonstration in New Delhi against the amendments offered.
