Turkey reprimands the major demonstrations launched by the arrest of Ekrem Imamoglu, mayor of Istanbul and Rival to President Rece Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish authorities arrested several journalists at home, a union of media workers announced on Monday, in the midst of degenerate demonstrations launched by the imprisonment of Ekrem Imamoglu, the mayor of Istanbul and the main rival of President Recep Tayyip.

On Sunday, in the primaries, Imamoglu was as a presidential candidate of the CHP. It was supported by 1.7 million CHPs and 13 million non -partisan members.

Imamoglu was elected mayor of Istanbul in March 2019, in a major blow to the Erdogan justice and development party, who had checked the city for a quarter of a century.

Erdogan's party prompted to cancel the results of the municipal elections in the city of 16 million, alleging irregularities. The challenge led to a rehearsal of the elections a few months later, which Imamoglu also won, this time by a much higher margin extending its advance of 14,000 votes to more than 800,000.

The mayor of Istanbul retained his headquarters after the local elections last year, during which the CHP carried out important gains against the Justice and Development Party.
