Sri Lanka will host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Moda next week, an official announced on Monday, while Colombo is struggling with the competing interests of his powerful neighbor in the North and China, his greatest lender.
A member of the leftist president, Anura Kumara, the Dissanayake office said that Modi would be the first foreign head of government to visit the island nation under the new administration.
“It should be remembered that the first foreign visit to the Dissanayake president after his election in September was in New Delhi in December,” the manager told AFP, who spoke under the guise of anonymity.

During the visit of Dissanayake in Beijing, the two countries agreed to continue maritime cooperation and signed several agreements on agriculture, tourism and media collaboration.
Unable to reimburse a massive Chinese loan in 2017, Sri Lanka presented its southern port of Hambantota to a company based in Beijing on a 99 -year -old lease for $ 1.12 billion.
New Delhi opposed the Chinese research ships entering the ports of Sri Lanka, accusing them of espionage of Indian military installations, an allegation rejected by Beijing.
