The chief minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, announced on Monday that the joint action committee, trained to oppose the proposal to delimit the center, decided to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to submit a representation.

“The resolutions have been adopted again indicating that the delimitation based on the 1971 census should be extended for additional 25 years. States that have managed to implement family planning should not be penalized,” he said.
The opposition parties are opposed to the current proposal for the delimitation of the center, believing that it unjustly benefits the North States and penalizes the southern states for their effective family planning measures.
The demarcation process has returned the limits of the constituency according to the population. The opposition argues that this could reduce political representation and economic opportunities for the southern states.
“The Tamil Nadu will fight, the Tamil Nadu will win,” he added, thanking all the parties, including the AIADMK, for their support.
The chief of the DMK also noted that the “awareness campaign” on the delimitation led by the government of Tamil Nadu “created an impact at the national level”.
