Chinese authorities have released five employees of the reasonable American diligence company Mintz Group of detention, two years after the Xi Jinpings administration repressed the consultants working with foreign multinationals.
We understand that the employees of the Mintz Beijing group who have been detained, all Chinese nationals, have now been released, a company spokesman for Financial Times told.
We are grateful to the Chinese authorities that our former colleagues can now be at home with their families, they added.
Mintz's staff were held by the Beijing Public Security Office following a RAID at the company's office in the Chinese capital in 2023, which alarmed foreign investors in the country.
Mintz employees have been accused of engaging in activities outside the official scope of the business license of the company, according to a person familiar with the issue.
It was not immediately clear if all the legal proceedings linked to the company in China had been resolved. After the detentions in 2023, Mintz closed his offices from China and Hong Kong.
The FT reported at the end of 2023 that between March 2019 and July 2022, the American company had carried out 37 surveys involving requests for statistics related abroad without obtaining legally required approval, according to the municipal office of Beijing statistics.
Mintz also had to pay a fine of approximately 1.5 million dollars taken separately by the office.
The company refused to comment more on Tuesday.
Mintz's detentions were part of a wave of surveys targeting the Chinese operations of American consultants and reasonable diligence companies, including the capvision of the Bain & Co network group and experts.
Raids on the Chinese offices of companies and the detentions of Mintz employees have left persistent fears among Foreign Affairs in China for their personal safety.
Tuesday's releases as Xi courts foreign business leaders to attract investments, because growth in the second world economy has slowed down and US President Donald Trump increases the prices on Chinese exports.
Dozens of international business leaders, including Apple Director of Apple, Tim Cook, the boss of Pfizer Albertbourla and Qualcommceo Cristiano Amon, went to China in recent days to meet senior Chinese leaders.
