Xi Jinping's family holds millions of investments despite anti-corruption driving: report

Beijing [China]March 25 (Ani): The relatives of Chinese President Xi Jinping continue to have millions of dollars in commercial enterprises and financial investments, reported Radio Free Asia, citing a recent report from American sources.
After supposing power in 2012, XI launched an anti-corruption campaign designed to eliminate corruption at all levels of the Communist Party. This initiative, which focused on high -ranking “tigers” and low -ranking “flies”, led to the survey and punishment of hundreds of thousands of civil servants, as reported by the FRG.
The FRG report pointed out that the Intelligence Agency supported by the United States, the office of the National Intelligence Director (ODNI), said that the XI family had maintained substantial financial interests and may have drawn political links through private and public companies.
“Their high -ranking positions could have given them access to privileged information, and private and public corporate activities could have benefited family investments because of their associations with people in the political authority,” said the ODNI in a report quoted by RFA.
The ODNI noted that the centralized authority, the lack of independent surveillance and limited responsibility, in particular at the provincial level, are systemic problems which promote corruption in China, as mentioned by RFA. The report suggests that these conditions allow government officials to raise wealth through corruption practices at an estimated rate of four to six times their official salary.
“Officials of higher rank, who benefit from better access to state assets, draw the best party from corruption and illicit financial transactions,” the ODNI reported, using their membership in the Popular Congress (PNJ) of China, as indicated by RFA.
“The potential advantages of membership in NPCs encourage individuals to cause substantial costs to join, often by bribes and to accept bribes while serving or even after their mandate to facilitate commercial transactions,” said the ODNI, as RFA reported.
The NPC, which is the legislative body of China which works mainly as a rubber parliament, is considered a symbol of status and a means of accessing sensitive government information, according to the RFA report. (Ani)
