Trump's executive decree targets Jenner & Block, law firm in Chicago and DC, lawyer Andrew Weissman

President Donald Trump released a decree on Tuesday targeting the law firm of Chicago Jenner & Block. The company also has an office in Washington, DC

Jenner and Block were an active part of the legal challenges against Mr. Trump's decrees, in particular by successfully obtaining a preliminary injunction against an administration order which reduced access to health care for young transgender people.

This affair is still unanswered before a federal court based in Maryland.

This executive decree orders managers to examine and revoke the security authorization of the members of the company, to identify any good, ownership, equipment and services provided by the federal government and stop providing them, to terminate any government contract which could exist with the law firm and to hire employees of the cabinet for any future site of the federal government.

The order also distinguishes lawyer Andrew Weissman, who worked on Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections. The decree indicates that he was rehired by Jenner & Block, but the company said that Weissman has not worked since 2021.

The decree specifies that Weissman is prohibited to be hired by or work for the federal government unless a renunciation is issued.

The Trump administration has targeted a certain number of law firms that have been active in the disputed or the break of court decrees and policies.

Previously, the president published and then canceled a decree targeting the law firm International Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Garrison & Wharton after he is committed to examining his hiring practices and providing tens of millions of dollars in free legal services to support certain initiatives of the White House.

A spokesperson for Jenner & Block responded to the order in a press release, writing in part: “Today, we have been appointed to an executive decree similar to that which has already been declared unconstitutional by a federal court. We remain focused on the service and safeguarding of our customers for the dedication, integrity and expertise that has defined our cabinet for more than a hundred years and appropriate. ”
