Letter from PM Modi to Muhammad Yunus from Bangladesh

In the midst of the icy links between Delhi and Dacca, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to Muhammad Yunus, acting chief of the Bangladesh government, wishing him the day of independence of his country and reiterating India's commitment to advance the partnership between the two countries.
“Excellence, I extend my congratulations to you and to the inhabitants of Bangladesh on the occasion of National Bangladesh Day,” wrote the Prime Minister. “This day testifies to our history and our shared sacrifices, which have laid the foundations for our bilateral partnership. The spirit of the Liberation War of Bangladesh continues to remain a guiding light of our relationship, which has prospered in several fields, bringing tangible advantages to our peoples,” he wrote.
“We remain determined to advance this partnership, motivated by our aspirations common to peace, stability and prosperity, and on the basis of mutual sensitivity to the interests and concerns of the other. Please accept, excellence, insurance of my best consideration,” added the Prime Minister.
Relations between the two countries have become tense after the government of the Awami League led by the long -standing ally of India, Sheikh Hasina, was overthrown after a national movement and the former Prime Minister was forced to flee in India. The interim government formed after the change of guard is led by the Nobel winner and the economist Muhammad Yunus.
In the midst of attack reports against minorities, India shared its concerns with Bangladesh. Dhaka said the attacks were politically motivated, not common.
The Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S Jaishankar, said that the center was engaged with the interim government at different levels and will continue to raise such questions.
In December, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vikram Misri, visited Bangladesh and expressed the concerns of New Delhi in Dhaka concerning the attacks on minorities. During a meeting with the foreign advisor Bangladais Mohammad Touhid Hosa, Mr. Misri revealed that attacks against religious institutions and places of worship are “regrettable”.
India's relations with Bangladesh are rooted in Delhi's support in the neighboring country in his war for the release of Pakistan in 1971. Dacca is also strategically significant for Delhi at the geopolitical level and the two countries also share deep commercial ties.
