Bangladesh chief advisor Yunus meets Chinese President Xi Jinping – The week

Beijing, March 28 (PTI), Chinese President XI Jinping met the Bangladesh chief advisor, Muhammad Yunus on Friday, reported the official media.
Yunus, during a four-day visit to China, participated in the annual Boao Forum conference for Asia in Hainan in the country after his arrival there on Wednesday. He arrived in Beijing on Thursday and was received at the airport by the Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong.
Preparing to meet his meeting with XI, Yunus called on China on Thursday to reduce interest rates for Chinese loans and to give up engagement fees on projects funded by China.
During his meeting with the Chinese vice-director Ding Xuexiang on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia's annual conference, Yunus asked for Chinese support in a range of development projects, according to the Bangladesh media.
He also called for a reduction in interest rates for Chinese loans from three% to 1 to 2% in Bangladesh and asked for a waiver of the costs of engagement on the projects financed by Chinese in Bangladesh.
China is the fourth lender from Bangladesh after Japan, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, total loans spent since 1975 reach $ 7.5 billion, according to a Daily Star Newspaper of Bangladesh report.
During his meeting with Ding, Yunus asked for the help of Beijing to facilitate the relocation of Chinese manufacturing industries, including ready -to -use clothing, electric vehicles, light machines, high -tech electronics, flea manufacturing and solar panel industry.
On the sidelines of the forum, Yunus also met the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, who expressed the interest of Moscow to export more wheat and fertilizer to Bangladesh.
“Russia would like to export more wheat and fertilizer to Bangladesh,” he said.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the operationalization of the Rooppur nuclear power plant funded by Russia.
Yunus also met the former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who is president of the Boao forum, and asked for support and advice for a smooth transition to democracy in Bangladesh.
“We want to start again; we need your support and your advice. We have an excellent opportunity now,” said Yunus quoted by the Daily.
