A demonstrator in a Pikachu costume joined thousands of demonstrators who went down to the street to express the indignation in the face of the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that 1,878 people had been arrested since the start of demonstrations last Wednesday, with only 489 released so far.
The Turkish Minister of Justice, Yilmaz Tunc, argues that Imamoglu was arrested according to the severity of the allegations of corruption taken against him and not because of the policy.
Tunc also denied that Turkey prison of journalists for their coverage, despite the arrest of the eight journalists, who were then released.
Reporters Without Borders, a group for defense of freedom of expression, ranks Turkey 158th in 180 countries in 2024 Press Freedom Index, alleging that the government directly influences 90% of all media.
