All eyes on vizhinjam, PM Narendra Modi to order the port
Thiruvananthapuram: With only two days for its commissioning, all eyes are on the port of Vizhinjam International Seaport while he is preparing to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will devote this historic infrastructure project to the nation.
As a first semi-automated port, Vizhinjam has already placed Kerala on the global sea map. Friday, its commissioning will mark a rare event in the history of the Indian port, recalling the inauguration of the port of Cochin almost a century ago.
The managers of the Vizhinjam International Seaport LTD (Visl) and the Adani ports and the Special Economic Zone LTD (APSEZ), in coordination with the Special Protection Group (SPG), finalize the security and logistics provisions for the visit of the Prime Ministers. A trial to examine these arrangements will take place on Wednesday. The Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday evening and spend the night at Raj Bhavan. The plan is to dive a mother vessel when visiting the Prime Ministers, but it will depend on the final approval of the SPG, said an official.
Modi should address the public on the site, which has a seat capacity of 7,500, at 11 a.m. The ceremony will also be frequented by the governor of Kerala, Rajera Arlekar, the chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Minister of the Union of Ports, Navigable Ways and Sarbananda Sonowal Voies, the State Ministers and the President of the Adani Gautam Adani group.
