Why Chinese President Xi Jinping wants to be close to the Russian Vladimir Putin, but not too much

The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, and his Russian homogue, Vladmir Putin, give the impression of being the best friends.

Xi felt to the right of Putin, a position reserved for unconditional allies, while their troops walked this Friday on the Red Square of Moscow as part of the Victory Parade, with which the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War is commemorate.

Xi wanted Trump to be clear that it is not possible.

The Russian and Chinese LDERES also described Trump's plans for an anti-milile shield “CPULA Gold” in the United States as “deeply destabilizing” and argued to militarize the space.

The two leaders are impatient to present their vision of an alternative world order against what they consider the American hegemonic.

But Xi is aware that, although China is a superpower, the power of Russia is now limited. It is no longer an alliance between equals.

The war in Ukraine weakened the Russian economy and reduced its arsenal and its army.

Western sanctions have also left MOSC much more dependent on Pekn for their economic survival. They seriously weakened the Kremlin on the world scene.

“Russia needs China much more than otherwise,” said Boulegue.
