On Election Day, Trump says any Jewish person who votes for Zohran Mamdani for NYC mayor is 'stupid'

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that any Jewish person who votes for Rep. Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for New York City mayor, is “stupid.”

Any Jewish person who votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self-proclaimed Jew-hater, is a stupid person!!! Trump wrote in an article on Truth Social.

Mamdani, who is critical of the Israeli government, has repeatedly rejected allegations that he is anti-Semitic, an accusation he said in June that pains me.

I have said on every occasion that there is no place for anti-Semitism in this city, in this country. I said that because it's something I personally believe, he said.

The Mamdanis campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Mamdani also denounced the Islamophobic attacks he faced as the city's potential first Muslim mayor. During their second debate, Mamdani accused his rivals, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa, of accusing him of anti-Semitism in part because of his religion. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that I'm the first Muslim candidate who is on the verge of winning this election, he said.

Trump, a New York native, has repeatedly weighed in on the mayor's race, threatening to withhold federal funding from his hometown if Mamdani wins the election. On Monday, he urged voters to vote for Cuomo, with whom he often clashed during his first term, when Cuomo was governor of New York.

The president himself has been accused of anti-Semitism over the years, notably for repeatedly invoking a cliché of dual loyalty to Jews and Israel.

Any Jewish person who votes for Democrats hates their religion, Trump said in an interview with his ex-aide Sebastian Gorka last year.

They hate everything about Israel and should be ashamed of themselves, Trump said at the time.

He also called Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, a highly overrated Jewish governor who, for strictly political reasons, refused to acknowledge that I am the best friend Israel and the Jewish people have ever had. He also called Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who is Jewish, a “Palestinian.”

At a campaign event last year titled “Fighting Anti-Semitism in America,” Trump complained about not getting enough support from Jewish voters and said they “would have a lot to do with losing” if he didn't win the election.
