Why did PM Modi visit CBN and Pawan Kalyan’s houses?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Hyderabad today for the launch of a few development programs and inauguration of a 1,500-bed cancer hospital in Kondapur owned by sitting BRS Rajya Sabha MP Hetero Parthasaradhi Reddy. The controversies surrounding the hospital are the subject of another debate.
During his visit, the Prime Minister visited the residences of AP CM Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan. This is perhaps the first time that the Prime Minister is meeting the CM and DCM of other states during an official tour.
What is the urgency behind these sudden encounters?
The BJP, TDP and Janasena are allied in Andhra Pradesh, but there are no pressing issues to be discussed immediately.
For Pawan Kalyan, there is at least this surgical operation as a reason for meeting. But there is nothing to meet Chandrababu Naidu.
This trip of the Prime Minister is also probably the first step for the BJP, TDP and Janasena alliance in Telangana.
The TDP and the BJP contested together in the 2014 elections, but the results were unsatisfactory.
KCR was able to brand Chandrababu Naidu as anti-Telangana and alienated the Telugu Desam Party in the new state. As a result, the BJP was also wary of allying with the TDP. Even though there is an alliance within AP, the BJP contested alone in Telangana.
But the 2028 election results indicate that Telangana sentiment does not exist in the state.
So, the BJP high command may have started mulling over the possibility of joining hands with the TDP and Janasena in Telangana as well.
Despite not being in power since 2004 in Telangana, the TDP still has a loyal vote bank in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Khammam, Nalgonda and Nizambad districts. These votes can be a deciding factor in close fights for many seats.
In some seats in the GHMC region, they constitute a major vote bank.
With the TDP not running, these votes were transferred to Congress in 2023.
Prime Minister Modi may want to bring them towards the BJP. An alliance with Janasena Party can attract young voters thanks to the charisma of Pawan Kalyan. So this could be the beginning of change in the political terrain of Telangana.
