The audio is believed to have leaked from the office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. However, the authenticity of the audio has not been confirmed. Some Pakistani media say the voice in the audio is that of Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan alleged that the released audio clip was part of a conspiracy against him. He said the current coalition government and army chiefs were behind the decision. Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party denied the incident. They alleged that the audio clips were fake. PTI said the conversation was created using software. They confirmed their argument by presenting a video of the voice-altering software.
