Pakistan pledged to further deepen ties with Afghanistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further deepen fraternal relations with Afghanistan and strengthen bilateral cooperation in all fields.

Speaking on Wednesday to the President of the Afghan High Council for National Reconciliation, Dr Abdullah Abdullah, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The prime minister said their bilateral relations are based on commonalities of faith and culture, a common history and brotherly ties between the two peoples.

Imran Khan noted that there is no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan and that a negotiated political settlement is the only way forward.

Emphasizing Pakistan’s positive contribution to the Afghan peace process, the Prime Minister stressed that Afghan leaders must seize this historic opportunity to achieve an inclusive political settlement contributing to lasting peace, security and prosperity in Afghanistan.

The prime minister said Pakistan is looking forward to the start of intra-Afghan negotiations at the earliest.

The Prime Minister invited Mr. Abdullah Abdullah to visit Pakistan as soon as possible to share his point of view on the advancement of the Afghan peace process and the establishment of closer ties between the two countries.

In a statement on Twitter, Dr Abdullah Abdullah said that during the telephone conversation with Prime Minister Imran Khan, he appreciated the support of Pakistanis for the Afgha peace process.

Dr Abdullah said we reiterated the unique opportunity to reduce violence, start intra-Afghan talks and continue on the path of dignified and lasting peace.

The head of the Afghan National Reconciliation Council also said he thanked the prime minister for extending an invitation and announcing a visit to Pakistan in the near future.
