Boris Johnson’s cabinet heeded his own advice today as ministers made their way to the high-level segment due to the threat of the coronavirus.
Prime Minister and Secretary of Health Matt Hancock were the only two politicians in the No. 10 room this morning, Downing Street confirmed.
He intervened after last night’s decision to lock the UK out and avoid gathering as much as possible.
The rest of his team used the Zoom conference app to join the discussion. The only others in the room were chief physician Chris Witty and cabinet secretary Sir Mark Sedwill.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak told cabinet that the meeting is almost complete that the July spending review has been postponed.
A Downing Street spokesperson said, “The Prime Minister has said it is essential that the public follow the instructions given by the government on the need to stay at home.

“The PM said that by staying at home, people would protect our NHS and save lives.
“The Chancellor has confirmed to Cabinet that the in-depth spending review will be delayed so that the government remains focused on responding to the economic and public health emergency.
“More details on the date of the in-depth spending review will be released in due course.”
The Chancellor later told MPsit that it would not be possible to protect all jobs and save all businesses during the coronavirus epidemic.
He said in the House of Commons, “There will be difficult times ahead and despite the major economic interventions we have put in place, we will not be able to protect every job or save every business.
“But I am confident that the measures we have put in place will support millions of people and businesses, and we will make sure that we get through it, we will do it together and emerge on the other side to the times stronger and more united. “
