Prime Minister Imran Khan supports public hanging and castration of sex offenders
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday called for chemical castration of those involved in rape cases so that they can no longer engage in such heinous crimes in the future.
In an interview with a private news channel, the prime minister said he believed there should be chemical castration of rapists, which was already in practice in many countries, or that they should be subjected to surgery. He explained that in case of murder there was the first degree, second and third degree in the same way, there should be a classification in this case.
And, those who are in the first degree, they should be castrated and operated on to prevent them from repeating this crime in the future, the prime minister said of the recent incident of highway rape. He admitted it shook the nation, sending shock waves.
On becoming prime minister in the early days, he said the Islamabad IGP told him that sex crimes were on the increase against women as well as children. The Prime Minister called for a three-pronged strategy to deal with cases of rape and sexual abuse, starting with the registration of sex offenders and pedophiles.
The second step, he explained, to tackle child rapists and sex abusers, was to inflict exemplary punishments on them and called for them to be hanged in public as they have ruined the lives of children as well as those of children. of their parents. He noted that one could not know exactly how many cases were occurring as they were underreported.
Regarding the public hanging of rapists, he noted that the government had come to the conclusion that the public hanging action would not be internationally acceptable in view of the GSP granted to Pakistan by the EU, which could be revoked.
Speaking on the coronavirus pandemic, the prime minister said that despite the virus being in control, a serious new wave of coronavirus could arrive in the country in winter, so people should be careful. In a comparative review of the coronavirus with India, the Prime Minister said India’s economy was most affected by the pandemic due to the poverty that followed due to the full lockdown. He added that this is why the world, including the World Health Organization, praises Pakistan and tells others to learn from us.
The prime minister said his team’s first achievement was to save Pakistan from default. Our reserves were exhausted, we could not repay our loans abroad. We were concerned that if we defaulted on our payments it would have a direct impact on the rupee, and when the rupee goes down everything gets more expensive and poverty increases, he added. He admitted that the PML-N’s criticism that Pakistan should have gone to the IMF soon was correct, but “the first attempt was to get as much money from our friends as to keep us from going. But it was a big deal that they gave us enough money to keep us from defaults, while I also admit that we didn’t have the experience, he said.
Imran Khan said the opposition’s only agenda was to blackmail the government in one way or another to save its leaders from corruption. He pointed out that when criminals enter politics, they protect the interests of their class rather than the country, and they harm the country more than the enemy. He did not think that Nawaz Sharif would return to the country if the government tried to bring him back.
Meanwhile, the PML-N has submitted a Senate amendment bill calling for the public execution of those convicted in child sexual abuse cases. PML-N Senator Javed Abbasi submitted the Children’s Amendment Bill to the Senate, which calls for keeping the child molester with a life sentence, in prison until he dies of natural causes . Another amendment to the bill requires that child sexual abuse cases be heard in higher courts instead of in sessional courts. The bill states that the High Court will be required to close rape and sexual abuse cases within two months, and an appeal against the verdict can only be challenged in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will conclude the appeal within two weeks. The penalties provided for in the bill will apply to sexual abuse of children up to the age of 18.
Meanwhile, the government and opposition in the National Assembly were unanimous on the exemplary punishment of the defendants involved in the tragic gang rape on the Lahore-Sialkot highway and most lawmakers demanded public hanging for these heinous crimes. .
The House also witnessed an outcry and strong protests from opposition female parliamentarians during the speech by the Prime Minister’s Home Affairs and Accountability Advisor, Lawyer Shahzad Akbar. Women parliamentarians gathered in front of the speakers’ platform and raised slogans of Shame Shame and whose friend of the CCPO is a traitor (CCPO Ka Jo Yar Hai Gaddar Hai). Akbar told the Chamber that one rapist was arrested within 72 hours of the incident, while the second would also be arrested shortly. He said the CHC had been warned of his “reckless” statement. As Shahzad Akbar concluded his speech, President Asad Qaiser adjourned the hearing amid strong protests from the opposition.
Earlier, participating in the debate, Minister of Human Rights Shireen Mazari said that a woman should be respected and have all the rights that men are entitled to. She called CCPO Lahores’ statement unacceptable and said more women should be employed in the police force. Dr Shireen Mazari said that if Shahbaz Sharif had such pain for women, he should also talk about the Model City incident. We have to be careful when talking about capital punishment, because in many countries, despite the death sentence, the crime has not decreased, she said.
The president asked lawmakers to look at examples from other countries granting public executions. PML-N House leader Khawaja Asif said Islam calls for public punishment and PML-N lawmaker Khel Das Kohistani has submitted the bill publicly punishing the heinous crime, which is to be study in the standing committee.
PPP-Ps Abdul Qadir Patel called for the arrest of the culprits involved in the incident. He said the government should accept responsibility as this horrific incident exposed the government’s ineffectiveness. PTI Amir Liaquat and JUI-F MP Maulana Abdul Shakoor also demanded the public hanging of those responsible behind the highway incident.
