European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has furiously attacked Boris Johnson’s plan to bypass parts of the Withdrawal Agreement this afternoon. She said the UK could not unilaterally cancel the Brexit deal, which the Prime Minister agreed with the EU last October. Responding to the EU’s firm stance, Express.co.uk asked its readers whether Mr Johnson should end post-Brexit trade talks with Brussels.
The online poll, conducted from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on September 16, asked: “After the attack on Ursula von der Leyen – should Boris end trade negotiations now?”
The vast majority of the 5,261 people polled believe the UK should drop the negotiations.
A whopping 95 percent of readers (4,996 people) voted “yes”, with just five percent (241 people) saying “no”.
Less than one percent (24 people) opted for “don’t know”.
Readers then took in the comments to explain why they believed the UK should withdraw from the negotiations.
One person wrote: ‘Trade negotiations should have been halted three months ago in favor of a WTO solution when it became clear that there was no satisfactory common ground available for come to an agreement.
“The increasingly toxic relationship must now be brought to its logical conclusion with a complete repudiation of the Withdrawal Agreement and preparations for outright competition and a trade war.”
Another user wrote: “Allowing this to drag on is absolutely no use, you just have to keep the door open for an adverse outcome when by far the best is to walk.”

Another reader wrote: “The UK will be absolutely right to move away from the EU at the WTO given the aggressive stance of the EU.
“It’s good to see that 96% of Brits who took part in this poll voted for WALK AWAY, I agree with you.”
Earlier today, Ms von der Leyen delivered her annual State of the Union address to the European Parliament, where she chose to discuss Brexit.
She said: “This Withdrawal Agreement took three years to negotiate and we have worked tirelessly on it line by line, word by word, and together we have succeeded.
“The EU and the UK have agreed that this is the best and only way to ensure peace on the island of Ireland and we will never come back to this point.
“This agreement has been ratified by this House and the House of Commons.
“It cannot be changed unilaterally, ignored, ignored.
“It is a matter of law, of trust and of good faith.”
