Imran Khan paid Rs282,449 tax, Shehbaz Rs9.73 million in 2018

 


ISLAMABAD – The Federal Revenue Council (FBR) on Friday released the parliamentarians’ fiscal directory which showed Prime Minister Imran Khan paid 282,449 rupees in taxes and opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif paid a tax value of 9.73 million rupees in fiscal year 2018..

In line with past practice, the RBF has published the Tax Directory of Parliamentarians for fiscal year 2018. The directory contains the tax details of members of the Senate of Pakistan and members of national and provincial assemblies. The Prime Minister’s advisor on finance and revenue, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, was the main guest at the ceremony for the publication of the tax directory and poll for the audit of taxpayers.

The tax directory showed that Prime Minister Imran Khan paid 282,449 rupees in tax in 2018.

Opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif paid a tax value of 9.73 million rupees. Senate Speaker Sadiq Sanjrani paid Rs 1.36 million and Senate Deputy Speaker Saleem Mandviwalla paid Rs 1.59 million in taxes in 2018. National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser paid 537,730 rupees and 5,790,500 rupees under the PDO. Former Pakistani President Asif Zardari paid 2.89 million rupees in taxes and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid 294,117 rupees in taxes. Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi paid Rs 241.3 million in tax and Rs 769,169 in PDO.

According to the fiscal directory, Federal Minister of Water Resources Faisal Vawda, Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Ahmed Khan Buzdar, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, Senator Faisal Javed, Senator Shammid Afridi and Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmed paid no tax during the year 2018.

Cabinet members

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi paid Rs 183,900 in tax. Defense Minister Pervez Khattak paid 1,826 million rupees. Minister of Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz paid 367,460 rupees, Minister of Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari paid 2.44 million rupees, Federal Minister of Planning and Development Asad Umer paid 5.35 million rupees, Minister of Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed paid 579,011 rupees, energy Minister Omar Ayub Khan paid 26,055,517 rupees and the national minister of food security and research, Fakhar Imam, 5,212,137 rupees.

Interior Minister Ijaz Ahmad Shah paid Rs 58,120. Justice Minister Farogh Naseem paid Rs35,135,459, Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan paid Rs1,046,669, Minister of States and Regions border (SAFRON) paid Shehryar Afridi Rs183,900 Minister of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs paid Ali Amin Gandapur Rs378,763, Religious affairs Minister Noor-ul-Haq Qadri paid only Rs 3,506,009 as an association of persons (AOP).

Ahsan Iqbal paid Rs 357,100, Khawaja Saad Rafique paid Rs 2.95 million, Khawaja Asif paid Rs 4.37 million and Ayaz Sadiq paid Rs 385,437. The President of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Rana Tanveer Hussain, paid Rs 386,751. Former Prime Minister Pervaiz Ashraf paid Rs267,380, Khursheed Shah Rs305,100, Naveed Qamar paid Rs208,689, Akhtar Mengal paid Rs1,324 million in taxes, Rana Sana Ullah Khan paid Rs1.388 million and Khurram Dastgir Khan paid Rs316.933 in tax in 2018.

Chief ministers

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Ahmed Khan Buzdar paid no tax in 2018, while Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah paid Rs 1,022,184 as tax and Rs 6,354,761 as PDO. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Mehmood Khan paid 235,982 rupees and the Chief Minister of Balochistan paid 4.81 million rupees in tax in 2018.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Hafeez Shaikh said, “Tax details for Pakistani elected officials will be released today. [and] a fiscal directory of parliamentarians is in the process of being published ”. He said some 90 senators and 311 deputies had paid a total of Rs800 million in taxes.

He said the government is making the RBF tax system transparent. He added that the government had taken two decisions, including not placing the tax audit under the control of an agent. “We are trying to get fewer people audited; we don’t want to audit a lot of people. This year, more than 10,000 cases have been selected for verification, ”Shaikh noted, adding that less than 1% of the population would be verified for income tax.
