Governor receives batch of medical supplies from China
KARACHI – Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Friday received medical supplies from the foundation of Chinese billionaire Jack Ma and the Alibaba Foundation to help Pakistan fight COVID-19, which is said to be transported by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), for subsequent distribution across the country.
Supplies included 56,000 COVID-19 test kits and other items such as face masks and personal protective equipment, reached the port city via a cargo plane at the old airport here.
Speaking to the media on occasion, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said that the way the Chinese government had helped Pakistan in a difficult time; no other government had done so.
He expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for their help and said it was proof of the friendship shown by Pak-China.
He also praised the Jack Ma Foundation, the Alibaba Foundation and the NDMA for their joint efforts for these essential medical supplies in Pakistan. Imran Ismail said that around 56,000 COVID-19 test kits were part of the supplies, which he described as extremely important and a key factor in the testing of coronaviruses. The tests were very important to determine the current situation and take additional measures to contain the coronavirus, he added.
He said they had also set up a 1,100-bed field hospital for the coronavirus and that these test kits would also be very useful in the field hospital. Governor Sindh said that all segments of society are united in the current situation to help the nation fight the coronavirus.
He said he would pay tribute to Prime Minister Imran Khan for making the best decisions and said the center was taking the most appropriate steps through necessary consultation and in-depth deliberations.
The Pakistani military is also making every effort and is coordinating very actively with the government in every way to contain the coronavirus, which is a very good sign.
He told a speaker that, although the country is going through a difficult economic situation, Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced an economic package for industrialists and to relieve the common man.
