Calling Pakistan a “producer, sponsor and exporter of terrorism,” dozens of people took to the streets of Kabul on Thursday to protest against Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s first visit to Afghanistan.

Protesters were seen carrying banners and brochures denouncing Pakistan’s “hypocritical policies”. They launched slogans against Pakistan and Khan.

One of the banners read: “Pakistan producer, sponsor and exporter of terrorism”. Similar protests were also reported in the southeastern provinces of Paktia and Khost against Khan’s visit.

Imran Khan arrived in Kabul on Thursday on his first official visit to meet with President Ashraf Ghani and other Afghan leaders to discuss the Afghan peace process and bilateral relations.

His visit comes at a time when the country is experiencing an escalation in violence despite ongoing talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban in Doha.

Pakistan has long been accused of encouraging terrorists and creating instability in the war-torn country. Although Islamabad has said it supports peace in Afghanistan, experts believe Pakistan supported the Taliban who killed thousands of innocent civilians.

Experts accused Pakistan of granting asylum to terrorists hiding from Afghan forces and sending fighters to support the Taliban.

According to a report by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), around 6,500 Pakistani terrorists are operating in Afghanistan, most of them belonging to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The 26th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team Regarding ISIS, Al-Qaida and Associated Individuals and Entities stated that Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a< grand groupe terroriste présent en Afghanistan >>, had claimed responsibility for various of the high-profile attacks in Pakistan and facilitated others by Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Lahskhar-e-Islam, according to the report.

Recently, a European think tank – the European Foundation for South Asian Studies (EFSAS) – said in a report that Pakistan is implicated in the escalation of the current escalation of Taliban violence in Afghanistan.

“If Pakistan had enough influence over the Taliban to bring it to the negotiating table with the United States, it certainly should have the power to get the Taliban to avoid violence at a time when such violence threatens. to tear up the US-Taliban agreement which has therefore been reached, ”the think tank reported.

The think tank also cited articles written by the United States-based Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) which interestingly addressed Pakistan’s role in spurring instability in Afghanistan. continues to reside in Pakistan, as do the regional Taliban shuras who support the Afghan war … If Pakistan does not allow – or even counterproductively – prevent stalled negotiations, the United States might consider suspending or to end Pakistan as an ally of the Atlantic Treaty Organization (non-NATO), which offers military and financial benefits that are generally not available to non-NATO countries. ”
