RAWALPINDI: The women’s wing of the Rawalpindi branch of the Pakistan Private School Management Association (APPCMA) staged a protest outside the Rawalpindi Press Club against the impending closure of educational institutions.

Over 100 teachers participated in the protest, led by their District President in Rawalpindi, Sakina Taj.

Participants carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans against governments who had proposed closing schools due to the surge in Covid-19 cases, saying schools had adopted all safety measures.

Speaking on the occasion, Sakina Taj said she could not afford to close educational institutions further.

Prime Minister Imran Khan should take note and prevent the closure of educational institutions, she said.

She said political rallies, processions and meetings should be canceled and restaurants and parks should be closed. She said children were safer in educational institutions than in streets and parks.

The government should not suspend educational activities and smart lockdown, she added.

Ms Taj said they came today to ask the government to keep schools open for the sake of educating new generations.

In the last six months of the closure, teachers have stayed at home and children have spent the time without education, she said.

She said that today they left for education and not for their problems. We have come to secure the future of the children. Please do not play with their future and give them their due. Don’t close the doors of education to them in the name of the coronavirus, she said.
