A Pennsylvania judge on Saturday dismissed Donald Trump’s allegations of widespread electoral fraud in that country, dealing yet another blow to the Republican’s attempt to reverse his loss in the U.S. presidential election.

The decision – heralded in a scathing judgment that refuted Team Trump’s legal strategy – paves the way for Pennsylvania to certify Democrat Joe Biden’s victory there, which is expected to take place on Monday.

As time is running out until Biden’s inauguration on Jan.20, Trump’s team has focused on trying to prevent battlefield states from certifying election results, in addition to his many legal challenges that have so far failed.

Judge Matthew Brann wrote in his ruling that the Trump team presented “unfounded strained legal arguments and speculative accusations” in their complaints about mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania.

“In the United States of America, that cannot justify the deprivation of the right to vote of just one voter, let alone all voters in its sixth most populous state,” Brann wrote.

“Our people, our laws and our institutions demand more.”

Biden won the state-by-state Electoral College votes that ultimately decide who takes the White House by 306 to 232.

The electoral college is due to officially vote on December 14, with certifications to be completed beforehand.

State certification of the results of their popular votes is generally common after a US presidential election.

But Trump’s refusal to concede has complicated the process and raised concerns that it could hurt Americans’ confidence in their voting system in the long run.

Only a limited number of Republicans have so far recognized Biden as the winner and called on Trump to concede.

The Pennsylvania court ruling prompted Republican state senator Pat Toomey to join those ranks, saying Biden “won the 2020 election and would become the 46th President of the United States.”

“President Trump should accept the outcome of the election and facilitate the presidential transition process,” Toomey said in a statement that praised Biden while clarifying that he voted for Trump.

The judgment in Pennsylvania came hours after Republicans also called for a delay in certification in Michigan, another battleground, in a letter repeating allegations of improprieties in the state which Biden won by 155,000 votes. .

They asked for a two-week delay to allow a full audit of the results in Wayne County, the state’s largest and home to majority-black Detroit, which was won overwhelmingly by Biden.

The Michigan Solicitors Council, which includes two Democrats and two Republicans, is also due to meet Monday to certify the results.

Republican Party national committee chair Ronna McDaniel and Michigan party chair Laura Cox called on the council to “adjourn for 14 days to allow for a full audit and investigation of these anomalies and irregularities.”

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said audits can only be done after certification because officials do not have legal access to the documents needed until then.

On Saturday, she posted on Twitter that there had been “no evidence” to question the outcome of the election.

“In a nutshell: 5.5 million Michigan citizens voted,” she wrote.

“The results of their votes are clear. No evidence has emerged to undermine that.”

Trump invited Michigan lawmakers to the White House on Friday as part of his attempt to reverse the will of voters, but lawmakers have stood firm, saying they will honor the election result.

Biden has so far moderate his criticism of Trump’s actions, although he has spoken of “incredibly damaging messages sent to the rest of the world about how democracy works,” adding: “It’s hard to understand how this man thinks . “

Trump has rarely appeared in public since his election defeat, but has not given up on his provocative Twitter campaign.

“The evidence is pouring in is undeniable,” he tweeted on Saturday while also playing golf.

“A lot more votes than needed. It was a landslide!”

Twitter slapped another warning tag on his tweet, along with others he posted later.
