Former Brexit MEP Ben Habib said he was concerned the UK would consider engaging with EU defense agencies and organizations. In an interview with Express.co.uk, Mr Habib warned Boris Johnson could accept military demands and EU cooperation to secure a Brexit deal. Mr Habib raised a specific issue with the UK aligning itself with the EU’s security structure, the PSC, as opposed to NATO.
Mr Habib said: “I am very concerned about the defense and what might happen in the defense.
“People may not know that the PSC (Permanent Structured Cooperation) put in place by the European Union, which is their alternative to NATO, was actually something put in place in 2017.
“What Theresa May, when Boris Johnson was Foreign Minister, signed with the UK.
“We actually joined this European Defense Union after we voted to leave the EU.

“Boris Johnson didn’t jump against that and, in fact, I think he is quoted at the time as saying something like we are leaving the EU and I wish them well in their military goals.”
Mr Habib reiterated why he was cautious about these developments compared to the current Brexit trade negotiations.
He said: “I am very concerned that any agreement we reach commits to European defense agencies, military interoperability and PSC.
“The reason I’m worried is that we have to defend Europe through NATO and not PSC.
The two sides remain unable to reach a resolution on a deal and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak has said the UK will not agree to a Brexit deal at any cost.
Ahead of his full spending review next week, he said the UK would have no incentive to strike a bad deal.
Mr Sunak told the Sunday Times: “The major impact on our economy is the coronavirus.
“It’s definitely not about making a deal at any cost. If we don’t get a deal, why?
“It is because they refuse to compromise on very reasonable and very transparent principles that we have laid out from the start.”
