Pakistani religious scholars protest against Prime Minister Imran Khan’s plans to take control of mosques

Pakistani religious scholars have threatened to protest against the plan of the government headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan to take control of mosques and seminaries.

According to a report by Dawn, academics at a convention raised their voices against the Waqf Amlak Act 2020 and vowed to resist it.

The ulama have also formed a “Movement for the Safeguarding of Mosques and Seminaries” in which protest rallies will take place.

Members who attended the convention included movement leader Maulana Zahoor Ahmad Alvi, Punjab section leader of Wafaqul Madaris Arabia Pakistan Maulana Qazi Abdur Rashid, among others.

They said that representatives of five schools of thought, leaders of religious parties and representatives of five seminary teaching councils will jointly protest against the new seminary teaching councils.

“Mosques and seminaries were free, are free and will remain so. No one will be allowed to impose restrictions on their freedom. We have resisted all these conspiracies in the past and we would face them in times to come. to protect mosques and seminars will continue, ”they added.
