Jokowi: Indonesia should be thankful for Bhineka Tunggal Ika’s legacy

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Indonesian President (RI) Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on community organizations (Ormas) to maintain interfaith tolerance and be grateful for Bhineka Tunggal Ika’s legacy of the nation’s founders.
At the National Conference (Munas) IX Indonesian Institute of Islamic Da’wah (LDII) on Wednesday (07/04/2021), the president said that a tolerant attitude is a must.
The president also encouraged mass organizations to respect each other for the differences, in order to achieve a common attitude of mutual respect for the different differences.
“We should be grateful to receive a legacy in the form of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika from the founders of the nation, even though they are of different ethnicities, nations and religious views, but they still respect each other, are united, harmonious and working together, ”said President Jokowi. The palace gave a virtual speech at the LDII IX national conference on Wednesday (07/04/2021).

President Jokowi called on all leaders and ranks of the LDII Central Executive Council (DPP), as well as the extended LDII family to always speak up for tolerance and religion in the country of Indonesia.
President Jokowi supports LDII’s commitment or paradigm which is open, tolerant and diverse.
“This must continue to be improved, LDII which highly respects other religions, highly respects Muslims, who are ready to cooperate with other Islamic organizations,” he said.

The president reminded all Islamic organizations to be guided by religious teachings that are cool, friendly, prioritize tolerance and avoid closed and exclusive attitudes.
Jokowi said the government will take a strong stand against all forms of intolerance that could damage the foundations of the nation.

Therefore, according to him, religious organizations in Indonesia must have anti-violence principles and commit to promoting acceptance of the nation’s principles as spelled out in the constitution, respecting Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
“Ormas must maintain an attitude of tolerance towards others, respect differences and provide space for beliefs, express their beliefs and voice their opinions and respect equality,” he said.
