TTFI forms investigative panel to investigate Manika Batra ‘match-fixing’ allegations against Soumyadeep Roy
- Manika had claimed that Roy, a Commonwealth Games gold medalist, had asked her to throw a match during the Olympic qualifiers in March and that’s one of the reasons she didn’t take his help during her singles campaign on the Tokyo Olympics.

Table Tennis Federation of India formed a five-member investigative panel on Saturday to investigate the allegations of match fixing of star player Manika Batra against national coach Soumyadeep Roy.
TTFI vice president Chiranjib Choudhuri has been appointed to chair the inquiry committee to submit its report within six weeks. Janendra Jain and Parth Goswami are the two lawyers on the panel, while Yashpal Rana is the other member.
The decision was taken during the TTFI board meeting, which took place virtually.
Manika had claimed that Roy, a Commonwealth Games gold medalist, had asked her to throw a match during the Olympic qualifiers in March and that’s one of the reasons she didn’t take his help during her singles campaign on the Tokyo Olympics.
The Indian team for the upcoming Asian Table Tennis Championships in Doha will be announced on September 16, TTFI secretary Arun Banerjee said after the meeting.
He reiterated that only those who participated in the ongoing national camp are eligible for selection. Manika has so far not reported to the camp.
