Skaneateles and Whitesboro teams win, Syracuse loses (video)
Garrett Krieger scored two goals in the first period that helped Skaneateles win 6-1 against Starpoint in a Division II boys' ice hockey quarterfinal on Saturday at the Buffalo State campus . The unbeaten Lakers (22-0-1) advance to face the winner of the Ogdensburg Free Academy / Webster Thomas game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at HARBORCENTER in Buffalo.
Skaneateles first scored a goal from Jack Henry, his 11th of the season, at 7:04 of the opening period.
Starpoint of Section V scored his only goal in the second period.
The Lakers then responded with three goals in the third period. Charlie Russell scored his 21st of the season, Cole Heintz his 22nd and Kreiger scored his third goal of the game to complete the score.
Adam Casper won the Skaneateles goal.
Whitesboro closes Rye, switches to Div. II semi-final of the competition
Jimmy Kraeger scored twice and Colin Webb added two assists to lead Whitesboro to a 4-0 shutout against Rye in a Division II boys regional ice hockey game on Saturday in Brewster, NY. The Warriors (18-5-1) advance to face the winner of the Queensbury / Saranac Lake / Lake Placid game at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at HARBORCENTER in Buffalo.
Kraeger now has 12 goals this season and Webb has 10 assists.
Jack Welch scored his first goal of the season and Noah Scranton scored his top 20 goalscorer of the year.
Whitesboro goalkeeper Cameron Manley recorded the shutout for the Warriors.
Victor clears Syracuse in the regional Division I competition
The quest for another State I ice hockey title for the boys in Division I ended for Syracuse as the Cougars lost 4-0 to Victor in Section V.
Syracuse goalkeeper Evan Carter made 24 saves for the Cougars (17-4-2).
