Baylor men's tennis beats ASU, 6-1 | Baylor
TEMPE, Ariz. The Baylor men's tennis team dominated Arizona State to win a 6-1 road victory on Saturday at the Sun Devils Whiteman Tennis Center.
No. 27 Baylor grabbed the double point and then won the first three singles games to finish in two sets on the road to a convincing victory.
The Bears doubles team of Ryan Dickerson and Adrian Boitan beat ASU Christian Lerby and George Stoupe, 6-3; and Baylors Sebastian Nothhaft and Finn Bass passed Nathan Ponwith and Will Kirkman, 6-1.
Bass stayed warm in the singles game as he won the No. 6, 6-2, 6-1 field against Stoupe. Baylors Sven Lah beat Arizona States Makey Rakotomalala, 6-4, 6-2, on field 2 and Boitan beat Ponwith, 6-4, 6-2, on field 1 .
Baylor played without Matias Soto on Saturday as he faced the Chilean Davis Cup team.
The Bears (12-3) return home for their next two games against Tulsa and Columbia on March 15 and 17 at the Hurd Tennis Center.
OSU equestrian team beats BU
Oklahoma State Equestrian Team # 2 outstripped Baylor, 10-8, Saturday at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
Baylor (5-8, 2-4) and Oklahoma State (9-3, 4-1) opened the game 2-2 in closings before the Cowgirls won a 3-2 victory in reining. Baylors Maggie Cincotta won the most remarkable honors in reining.
The Bears returned to win a 3-2 flat victory, while Rachael Davis won the MOP. But Oklahoma State won the horseback 3-1 to finish the game.
Baylor will host the Big 12 tournament from March 27 to 28 at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
MCC Softball Double Head
VERNON The road was tough for the McLennan Community Colleges softball team on Saturday. The Highlassies dropped a double at Vernon College, 7-6 and 2-0.
Things were going well for the Lassies in the first game. They took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, after scoring one point each in the second and third innings. Vernons Lady Chaparrals narrowed the gap to one, marking their first run at the end of the fourth. MCC appeared to take control of the game with a fifth of four points, highlighted by Rebekah Parks' two-point circuit.
Then Lady Chaparral's bats came to life, scoring three points late in the sixth and scoring three more in the late seventh, which helped the home team win.
CMC (15-4, 4-2 NJCAC) had two hits and no runs in the second game, but the Highlassies won Vernon their second win. It took Vernon until the end of the seventh inning to score his two runs when Vernons Kaila Eastburn hit a two-run homerun.
The two losses were the first conference losses for the Highlassies. They will continue to play conference when they welcome Temple College to the Bosque River Ballpark on Wednesday, with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
