Foley Takes Second NCAA Championship All-America Honor
ATLANTIA sophomore Sarah Foley was named an All-American with an honorable mention in the 200 breaststroke with a school record time to conclude the 2022 Women’s NCAA Championship at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
Foley reached the B final and improved her preliminary time by more than a second to set a school record of 2:05.78, winning her heat in the final. Foley’s time in the evening session was the fifth fastest time on the day overall.
Foley’s All-America honors make her only the third Duke women’s swimmer to earn multiple accolades in a single NCAA championship. Former Blue Devils Alyssa Marsh and Nancy Hogshead-Makar each did that twice.
Also in action on Saturday, sophomore Catherine Purnell finished 37th in the preliminaries of the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:56.81. freshman Margo O’Meara and junior Ali Watson placed 36th (230.65) and 42nd (217.90) in platform diving.
The Blue Devils finished 24th as a team with 36 points, the third-highest finish in the history of the program. Duke’s four All-America honors at the NCAA Championship matched the most in the program’s history. The Blue Devils also recorded four in 2011.
