Track wins two more titles to wrap up SEC Championships




OXFORD, Ms.— The Bulldogs took five more metals, including a couple of league titles, closing out the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships on the Ole Miss campus on Saturday.

The Georgia men took 75 points for fifth place, while Arkansas (121), Alabama (116) and Tennessee (84) took the top three of the team race. This is the Bulldogs’ best total since they also scored 75 in 2017 and finished fifth. The Lady Bulldogs finished with 33.5 points and took 10ewhile Florida (107), Arkansas (103) and LSU (96.5) made up the top three on the women’s side.

On the track, senior Elijah Godwin transformed his bronze medal in the 400m last year into second place thanks to the second under-45 performance in his career. The Bulldogs also took a few third-place finishes on the final day. Senior Titiana Marsh was a spot off the podium in 2021 and responded by earning bronze in the triple jump this year thanks to ending her season-record run on her fifth and sixth attempts. the low point: Hailing from San Jose, California, Carbin was the only competitor on Saturday to clear 2.24 meters/7 feet, 4 inches and was crowned the high jump champion with the result. Injured in 2021 and sidelined alongside his teammates in 2020 due to the pandemic, Carbin had finished ninth in his only other two SEC outdoor games (2018-19). This time, he left no doubts by clearing all of his five heights on his first try.

Boling had already owned the facility’s 200m record since Thursday, breaking his record at the Ole Miss facility by winning his first SEC outdoor title and second conference crown overall (60m, 2022). He came off the corner in front of the main stand and never looked back with a 20.01, knocking out his 20.24 from the preliminaries.

Boling competed in the 100m final in his first of two events on day three, scoring with a fourth-place finish. In a race where the top four were just 0.09 apart, Boling crossed the finish line in 10.13 to earn himself two top-four finishes in the event in the past two years.

Booze arrived on campus for the 2020-21 school year after the native Ona, WV, was transferred from UC Riverside. In his sophomore year with the Bulldogs, Beverage wasted no time setting the tone for the event when he sent his opening attempt in the discus with a personal best 52.94/173-8, which was the longest throw on the first flight.
