Dinesh Karthik’s Big Prediction for Pakistani Star Babar Azam
Pakistani captain Babar Azam has come into his own in recent years and is currently the No. 1 ranked batter in both whiteball formats. If you’re talking about the longest format then Babar is in fifth and would try to keep piling up the runs to make pole position his own. Former India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik has said that Babar has what it takes to be the number 1 player in all three formats of the game.
“One hundred percent (he’s able to do that). He’s a quality player who is at the peak of his striking ability and he has some exhibition games ahead of him. He’s been phenomenal in all three formats of the game and he’s also done well in several batting positions,” Karthik said on The ICC Review.
“I wish him all the best and think he has the potential. He has all the following from Pakistan who will help him in abundance to carry on and do special things for his country,” he continued.
In his career, Babar has played 40 Tests so far, scoring 2,851 runs at an average of 45.98. He has six centuries to his credit in the longest format and 21 half-centuries.
Karthik also said that Babar Azam could be placed alongside Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson and that the “Fab Four” could soon be called “Fab Five”.
“It’s a very strong Fab Four we’re talking about and they’ve clearly been around for a lot longer but there’s no doubt Babar has all the qualifications and he’s going to make it a ‘Fab Five’. No doubt he’s there or about that…he’s a very special player,” Karthik said.
“The two things that struck me when I saw him hit are his balance and his point when he plays a ball. Whether on the forefoot or the hindfoot, his ability to hit the ball under his eyes more often than not , has been phenomenal. He hits the ball where he has the optimal power for where the ball is thrown and that makes him a very special player,” he added.

Finally, the Indian wicketkeeper also said that Babar will get better and better and equipped to play in different conditions.
“When you play international cricket you have to change a bit here and there to keep improving your technique. Sometimes only one percent of the time so you can go ahead and achieve success in that particular tour that you are up to, so I think he’s tweaked his technique a bit here and there over time,” Karthik said.
