Vols place four on ABCA / Rawlings All-America Teams

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. The post-season All-America accolades continue to pile up for members of the Tennessee baseball team after their record-breaking 2022 season.

Four Vols were awarded to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-America teams, which were announced Friday-morning.

sophomore pitcher Chase Dollander earned his fourth first-team All-America nod, becoming the first UT player to achieve first-team All-America consensus since VFL and World Series champion pitcher Luke Hochevar in 2005.

Dollander has now received first-team All-America acclaim from four outlets and was also named the SEC Pitcher of the Year, only the second player in program history to win that award (Hochevar, 2005). The Evans, Georgia native set a perfect 10-0 record and led the country with a 0.80 WHIP. He also finished second in the SEC with 108 strikeouts and led the conference with a 2.39 ERA while keeping his opponents at a .175 batting average.

Position players Trey Lipscomb (third base) and Drew Gilbert (outfield) were both rosters of the second team after placing first and fourth in the SEC in runs batted in this season. Lipscomb’s 84 RBIs rank third in single-season program history, while Gilbert’s 70 ranks eighth. The duo also hit 33 of Tennessee’s record-breaking 158 home runs together.

This is the fourth All-America team that both players have been selected for this year. Lipscomb was one of three finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy and a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, while Gilbert was a first-team All-SEC roster and SEC Tournament MVP this season.

Rounding out the group of ABCA All-America honorees is freshman pitcher Chase Burns, who took the third-team honors of becoming the most decorated freshman in Tennessee since former AL Cy Young Award winner RA Dickey. This marks Burns’ third All-America team selection this year. Dickey is the only Vol to be named to more All-America teams as a freshman, gaining recognition from four outlets in 1994.

Burns has also earned Freshman All-America honors in three different publications and was named Freshman National Pitcher of the Year by the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball.

After turning down the chance to play professional baseball out of high school, Burns had a phenomenal debut season for the Big Orange, finishing with an 8-2 record and 2.91 ERA to go along with 103 strikeouts while serving as the Vols’ Friday night starter for most of the season. The Gallatin, Tennessee’s eight wins rank fifth for a UT freshman, and his 103 punchouts rank third in program history.

In Tennessee, eight players have taken non-freshman All-America honors this season, doubling the previous program record of four sets in 2021 and 1994. If you count freshman All-Americans, the Vols have nine players All-America recognition earning them, which also broke the previous school record of five in 2021.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
