Ireland-bound Indian squad gets three-day break to rejuvenate | Cricket News
While Rahul Dravid, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant taking an early flight to London on Monday, the BCCI wants its T20 specialists to take a short break.
“All the players selected for the Ireland T20s will go home for a three-day break. While there is no bio-bubble, they had no families with them for the series and some have been playing non-stop since IPL.
“It’s only fair that they spend some time at home,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on Sunday.
It is understood that all members of the Ireland-bound squad will gather in Mumbai on June 23, along with NBA chief VVS Laxman and his team of support staff.
“Laxman and the players will be in Mumbai by the 23rd and leave for Dublin the next day. As they are already out of a series you don’t need time to get into the rhythm. It’s also a two game series so you won’t need much time to acclimate,” he explained.
The T20I party, after playing the two games in Malahide on June 26 and 28, will move to the UK for T20 test matches, coinciding with the test team’s ‘fifth’ match last year in Edgbaston from 1-5 July.
However, it is clear that not all players in the current T20I line-up will be retained for the England tour as many regulars will be making a comeback to the team.
“By the time the English whiteball series starts, you will see all the stars playing until the T20 World Cup. There will be no break from then on, except for smaller series like Zimbabwe.
“Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja will all be back in the mix. The only person missing for now is KL Rahul. So some of the current top players (playing against South Africa), rand pacers or any strange spinner,” he stated.
