Girls Tennis Lakers, Bears Take Both Wins – Eagle News Online
CENTRAL NEW YORK – After all the rains from the beginning of the week had been exhausted, there was time for girls’ tennis matches on a warm Wednesday afternoon, with Cazenovia and Chittenango both successful.
Although the Lakers were able to eliminate Mexico 7-0, the margin didn’t reflect the fight, as four of the seven games went to three sets.
Rachel Molloy, at first base, claimed a close one over Juliana Smith 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, while Madden Cobb also played a tight third set in her 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 victory over Paige Masrouri.
More than in doubles, Erin Kuhn and Katie Williams needed a tiebreak in the third set to complete their rally, beating Anita Druce and Grace Schipper 6-7, 6-4, 7-6. Teagan Brown and Cady Webb also came back for their 4-6, 6-3, 8-6 win over Shealyn Burns and Olivia Bartel.
Grace Probe had it easier, beating Zoe Grzesik 6-0, 6-1, with Nora Bera and Leah Bell fielding Avery Mack and Isabella Ponzi 6-2, 6-0 while Ava Dalton, paired with Kiana Vazquez, Morgan defeated Benton and Nataleigh Smith 6-2, 6-1.
As for the Bears, it defeated Bishop Grimes 6-1 and claimed all of its points in straight sets, save for Emily Gushea’s 6-2, 6-0 defeat to Sofia Ziankoski.
Sarah McKillid won 6-0, 6-3 against Riley Broton, and Maddy Douglas also lost little time by beating Isabella Bonacci 6-0, 6-2.
Two of the doubles matches were forfeited, but Savannah Drake and Anna Spencer did play, leaving Ashlee Brisson and Kristina Kovar 6-0 6-0 when Evelyn Keville and Allison Bartoszek Francesca Smith and Lania Young 6-1, 6- 1 defeated.
