The Bucks form of winning is scary for the rest of CFB
The Ohio state soccer team has dominated their opponents for the first 4 weeks of the college soccer season. The Buckeyes are 4-0 on the season except for Notre Dame, the wins so far have been in blowout fashion. The way the Buckeyes have won so far is terrifying for the rest of college football.
The Buckeyes’ offense picked up where they left off last year, scoring plenty of points in a frenzy. If you blink you’ll miss them as they walk into the end zone, that’s how fast this offense can take to the field and smash it for six. You may think this is normal for the state of Ohio, but the crazy thing is that the offense has not been healthy at all this season so far.
Their deadliest assault weapon, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, hasn’t been 100% since he got injured in the Notre Dame game. Ryan Day thought Smith-Njigba would be all set to take on Wisconsin, but now he’s on the day-to-day list with no timetable for a return.
Even with the offense a bit cranked up, Stroud and his company have produced some ridiculous numbers. Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka were great in the passing game with Smith-Njigba down and Fleming injured in the season. Fleming is now back and playing very well. Once Smith-Njigba can get back on the field, this offense will become even harder to stop.
The biggest question surrounding this Ohio state soccer team coming into the 2022 season was how Jim Knowles would flip this defense. Despite some hiccups in secondary, I think the defense was incredible. Tommy Eichenberg was the core of the defense, playing as the best linebacker in America. However, just like the offense, the defense also misses many key players due to injury.
The Buckeyes had just three stock market corners available last week in their win over Wisconsin. Denzel Burke, Cameron Brown and Jordan Hancock were all sidelined due to injuries. They also missed safety Lathan Ransom, who did not appear on the status report prior to the match.
The longer these guys are gone, the thinner it stays with the Buckeyes. Having the top three corners and safety just shows how much better this defense can be.
The Buckeyes need a good week to prepare for Rutgers. There is optimism from Ryan Day that some of the guys in secondary who missed time last week will be available. Smith-Njigba’s status for week 5 is still uncertain. Once this team is back to full strength offensively and defensively, the college football landscape will be notified.
Ohio State opens as a massive 40-point favorite over Rutgers according to FanDuel. Their health and depth will determine if they can cover the spread against the Scarlet Knights on Saturday.
