DURHAM After opening the 2023 campaign with three wins, the fifth-placed Duke women’s tennis team returns to action this weekend when the Blue Devils host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham , NC
Top-seeded Duke (3-0) opens action Saturday, January 28 against No. 4 seed VCU (0-2) at 10 a.m., followed by No. 2 seed SMU (2-1) against No. 3 seed Wisconsin ( 2-1) at 2 p.m. Both losing teams will then face each other on Sunday, January 29 at 10 a.m., followed by the winning teams at 2 p.m. There is free parking on the blue zone grounds for all fans.
The winners of the championship game at 2 p.m. will advance to the National Team Indoors Feb. 10-13 in Seattle, Washington.

ITA kick-off weekend
Duke is hosting VCU, SMU and Wisconsin for the ITA Kickoff January 28-29. All four teams will attempt to advance to the National Team Indoors February 10-13 in Seattle, Washington.
The Blue Devils hope to advance to the National Team Indoors for the 30th time in school history. Duke failed to continue in both 2022 and 2021, so the Blue Devils are looking to break that streak in 2023. In ITA Kickoff Weekend games in Durham, NC, Duke owns a 26-2 ledger. The Blue Devils won the National Team Indoors in 2003 and 2014.
The series with VCU
The Blue Devils and the Rams will face each other for the eighth time in series history, with Duke leading the series 6-1. This match will be contested for the fifth time in a row at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center between these teams. The Blue Devils are on a five-game winning streak against the Rams, winning the last game, 7-0, the year before, on February 17, 2021.
Duke vs. the Atlantic 10 Conference
The Blue Devils are 16-1 overall against the Atlantic 10 Conference. Duke is currently on a 13 game win streak against A-10 opponents.
Scouting VCU
VCU currently holds an 0-2 record to open the season with losses to Temple (2-4) and Maryland (0-4). The Rams are the four-time defending Atlantic 10 Champions. VCU returns three crucial pieces from last year’s A-10 Championship in senior Gabriela Davidescu, an All-Atlantic 10 Second Team selection, and sophomores Anja Draskovic and Yelizaveta Karlova.

The Blue Devils and Mustangs resume their series for the first time since 2008, meeting for the seventh time in school history. The series is tied 3-3 overall, with the last matchup almost 14 years ago. In the final meeting, Duke had a 7-0 sweep at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Duke currently has a 3 game winning streak against SMU, dating back to 1990.
Duke Versus the American Athletic Conference
The Blue Devils are 18-3 all-time against the American Athletic Conference. Duke currently has a 10 game winning streak against American Athletic Opponents.

SMU currently has a 2-1 record and is coming off a 5-2 loss to No. 1 Texas on Saturday. The Mustangs return to the core of their squad that produced a 15-9 record a season ago.
SMU’s Hadley Doyle is ranked No. 113 in the ITA singles rankings, while the team of Taylor Johnson and Jackie Nylander is No. 32 and the duo of Winslow Huth and Lana Mavor are No. 38 in the doubles.
The series with Wisconsin
Duke and Wisconsin face each other for the ninth time in series history, and for the first time since 2013. In the final meeting, the Blue Devils won the Badgers 6-0. Duke leads the series 7-1 and is currently on a seven-game winning streak against Wisconsin dating back to 1987.

The Blue Devils are 126-23 all-time against the Big Ten Conference. Duke is currently on a five game winning streak against Big Ten opponents.

Duke arrives to make his 11th appearance in the NCAA Semifinals and claim ninth ACC Championship under the head coach’s direction Jamie Ashworth. Georgia Drummie entered the 2023 dual match season as the winner of eight consecutive dual matches dating back to April 2022. Throughout her career, she holds a 58-19 record in dual match action.
Duke will play the first eight games of the season at home in Durham.
Head coach Jamie Asworth started the season with 573 wins, ranking fifth nationally among active coaches in wins.
The Blue Devils have won 29 straight games in the double point win. Duke has not dropped a game at home in winning the double since May 14, 2016 against Texas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Chloe Beck owns a six match winning streak in singles, while Brianna Schvets and Ellie Coleman have each won four in a row.
